Singles across the country agree Ross and Rachel of "Friends" should end up together in the show's finale
More than 40 percent of men surveyed admit to using Joey's "How you doin'?" pick-up line
The NBC hit series "Friends" has been a fixture in our lives for ten years. Just before the series came to an end in May 2004, Yahoo! Personals surveyed more than 1,200 singles across the country to find out how the show and its characters influenced their own lives.
- Will "the Break" Be Over? More than 75 percent of singles are hopeful that Ross and Rachel will end up together in the show's finale.
- Friend Envy. More than half of singles surveyed (53 percent) wish they had a close-knit group of friends like the show's characters.
- Dating Styles. Nearly half (47 percent) of singles surveyed compare their own dating history to Monica and Chandler's friendship turning romantic over time, versus Ross and Rachel's "on again, off again" romance (33 percent) or Joey's habit of dating with no commitment (20 percent).
- They Truly Are Our Friends. Nearly 75 percent of singles surveyed feel like Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler and Joey have become their own "friends" over the past ten years.
- Most Romantic Moment. One-third of singles surveyed say that Monica's surprise candle-lit proposal to Chandler is the most romantic "Friends" moment.
- Best Kiss. The No. 1 "Friends" kiss, according to more than one-fourth (28 percent) of singles surveyed, is when Rachel kisses Ross after watching their high school prom video.
- Making Lists. More women (47 percent) than men (35 percent) have made a list comparing good and bad traits of different love interests as a way to decide which to date, like Ross did when choosing between Rachel and Julie.
- Battle of the Sexes. Who's the most date-able? Which characters are marriage material?
- Single women across the country overwhelmingly agree that cute and funny Chandler is the character they'd most want to date and marry (62 percent and 65 percent respectively).
- The not so smart and often unemployed Joey is the character women would least like to marry (less than 8 percent).
- Prima donna Rachel is the top pick among single men to date and marry (46 percent), while competitive control freak Monica is the least appealing to the men surveyed (17 percent).
- Choosing Friends. Which "Friends" characters make the best buddies?
- Comedic Chandler is the top choice (46 percent) among single men as the character they'd most like to have has their best buddy, with Joey a close second (43 percent) because "he'd help them meet more women."
- It's a close call among the women - 41 percent prefer Rachel because "she'd make a great shopping partner," yet 38 percent say Phoebe is the best choice because "she'd help them see life from a new perspective."
- Top Celebrity Guest. Nearly half of women surveyed (46 percent) reveal Brad Pitt as their favorite celebrity guest, when he played Monica's friend who started the "I Hate Rachel Club" in high school, while Julia Roberts as Suzie Underpants, Chandler's childhood friend, is the favorite guest star among men.
