I'm an economic and social conservative, Republican, Teamsters union member, moral traditionalist, pro-life, U.S. Army veteran, Secular Humanist atheist. Yeah, seems contradictory, but I make it work; all it takes is a truly open mind. Of course, this makes finding compatible female companionship somewhat problematic, so here I am!
I'm extremely intelligent, intellectual, and philosophical. I have wide ranging interests and am broadly educated. Hey, I play a mean game of Trivial Pursuit! I have a BS in Finance, but a business career isn't for me. I'm working on a BA in English (Literature & Creative Writing) as preparation for being a writer or graduate school or maybe both. All depends on how long my love of learning holds out against my disdain for "education."
In addition to school, I work part-time at UPS as a package handler and try to write something of literary quality with some regularity. I'm an avid webmaster with four well-indexed sites on their own domains: personal, nontheistic pro-life/anti-abortion, high school graduating class, and genealogy. Also, I'm an inactive US Chess Federation life member.
I have an outrageous sense of humor; if I don't laugh, it ain't funny. Upon laughing at a professor's comment which he obviously meant to be taken seriously, a classmate defended me, "That's just Matt, he thinks everything is funny." Hey, life's a joke, enjoy it! My laughs range from a snicker to a full belly laugh which people never forget and even recognize me for.
I've always been a loner and tend to keep my own company. When I "come out of my cave," I tend to be very warm and engaging, amusing and entertaining. I've been described as "introverted in an extroverted sort of way." I'm content within myself, but I know that a fully satisfying life requires a relationship with a woman with all that entails.
Though I'm a much better buyer of books than reader, I prefer literature, history, philosophy, biography, and current affairs. My musical tastes are dominated by Classic Rock (Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix, Doors, Who, Springsteen, Pink Floyd, etc.). I have all of Beethoven's symphonies; there are times when I must have a little Ludwig van! I love movies, preferring the classics; some favorites: Casablanca, High Noon, anything by Kubrick or Kurosawa. My TV viewing includes History Channel, Discovery, Fox News, C-SPAN, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, South Park, The Simpsons, and the various movie channels.
The 1996 Olympic flame photo best represents my current build; about 215 lbs then/now, though my beard is rapidly graying. The infants are my nephews, now 11 and 9.
I want a woman (18 to 30 or so; the limiting factor is time for children) who shares my (ir)religious beliefs and hopefully my political and social views. She should be my best friend and partner and share my ultimate goal of marriage and family; don't worry, I'm obviously in no hurry, and I'm a great believer in courtship. She would tolerate the fact that I'm a "work in progress."
I need an intelligent, educated, intellectual woman so we can delight in one another's minds and revel in learning more about the world together. I like a woman to be warm, sweet, affectionate, and even-tempered, but also firm, self-respecting, and no-nonsense. As for physical attraction, attractive to me is anything from cute to gorgeous, slender to somewhat stocky; basically, I want a pleasing face and body to package what's really important. Also, I prefer the natural look, but cosmetics used discreetly and well can be nice at times. I've always had a thing for cute, dumpy, intelligent, intellectual women as they have the potential to stimulate me thoroughly.
I realize the potential age difference would create an "interesting" psychosocial dynamic which would pose a significant challenge in any relationship and would require mutual effort to work out. Getting what one wants out of life is usually a challenge. Are you the Bacall for my Bogart?

Failing to grab the 1996 Olympic flame on the way with my sister to watch South Korea play Cuba in baseball. Leave it to a couple of overheated, overeducated twerps to attempt to create a novelty shot with an Instamatic-type camera... DOH!

Formal Army portrait when I was stationed in Germany in 1987. O, the military bearing! O, the pride! Damn, I looked good in my Class A's! Rock of the Marne! HOO-WAH! I was a soldier once ... and young....

Getting ready to hit the strasse and strut my Scottish pride for the Aschaffenburgers in 1988. I made quite a scene in our small town. The next day, the German girlfriend of one of the guys in my unit heard about it from a coworker! I love it!
