Delights And Frights: Your Tales Of Memorable First Dates

We asked for your memorable first-date tales. Here are some of the stories told us.

"We found each other on Yahoo! Personals and met at an oceanfront restaurant. We had dinner and wine and strolled on the beach under the moonlight. We had a great conversation. At the end of our date he walked me to my car and kissed me goodnight on the cheek. The next day he sent roses to my office. To this day we are still going strong." -- Jennifer F.

"My most memorable first date came through Yahoo! Personals. I sent the first flirt. After emailing back and forth several times, we exchanged phone numbers. We talked for hours and hours every night. We made a date to meet for coffee at 1 p.m. on Friday. I couldn't wait.

"Friday morning arrived. The phone rang. They had cancelled his appointment and he could meet me earlier -- in about an hour! I hurried to get ready. The anticipation was so great! I was on my way, about a block away. My phone rang. He was there! My heart was racing, my hands started sweating and my legs started shaking. It was finally happening! I walked around the corner, still on the phone. He was standing by his truck, leaning on the back of the truck bed. My first thought was, 'Oh my God! Thank you, God!' His looks were beyond what I had imagined. He stood at least six feet tall, dark curly hair, a muscular physique and with a big beautiful smile -- grinning from ear to ear. He was drop-dead gorgeous! I swallowed hard and finally found my voice. I said, 'Hi Tony, it is nice to finally meet you.'

'He gave me a hug and said he was glad to finally meet me. We walked across the street to the coffee shop. We sat and talked over coffee. When we finished our coffee we decided to go for lunch. We went to his truck... he opened my door. Then he handed me a bouquet of flowers. Boy, was he good! I never expected flowers. We sat and talked for hours. Where did the time go? It was time for me to pick up my son at school. We dropped off his truck at my place and walked to pick up my son. Then we went back to my place and I fixed my son a snack. We talked and talked. It was so natural and comfortable talking to him. We ended up going to his place and watching a DVD. We all enjoyed it very much. Thank you, Yahoo!" -- Maryann

"The guy got sick during the salad course, spent a lot of time in the bathroom and ran out, literally, because of vomiting and diarrhea. Of course, he left me behind with my entrée -- and the check." -- Swetepi

"Now you have to understand, this was a first date after 22 years of marriage! I had a blast, but I had to quit always answering the waiter -- want more wine, no -- tea, no. Fortunately when the poor waiter came back and asked if we wanted dessert, I caught myself before I said (you guessed it) no! I apologized to my new date, but he just laughed and said he was really waiting for me to reach over and cut his steak! I could've died! We did have a few very fun dates after that, even though it didn't work out!" -- Linda N.

"I met for coffee with a perfect, attractive gentleman after all the toads." -- Terri M.

"For our first date I took the lady to a real fine restaurant in Lincoln Park (Chicago) called Mel Markon's Zanadu. After dinner we went to a real nice club, the Limelight. After a few drinks she said she wanted to go home -- she was bored. I told her okay, but I had a quick stop I'd like to make first, and she agreed. I took her to the Sears Tower, went up to the observation deck (it was 3 a.m. -- I knew the head of security) and ran around naked, which would be hard to do these days (since 9/11). Well, after that date Lisa never thought of me as boring, and we stayed together for six years." -- Anthony G.

"We met at a coffee shop and talked for an hour. Then we decided to have lunch. While I stopped at an ATM the bank was robbed and we were held by police for nearly four hours. I haven't seen her since." -- Roy A.

"It was on Valentine's Day 2002. I met this woman, Terry, and somehow she just seemed so familiar to me, like we had met somewhere before. She said she didn't think so. Well, we started talking about the past, things we did when we were younger. Terry said she used to go rollerskating when she lived in Clearwater, Fla. She said that one event stood out in her mind. There was this one time she noticed this tall guy with long hair, sideburns and glasses who used to skate there. He was known as the speed skater of the Super Skate, and he had this habit of throwing his long hair back and pushing up his glasses when he came around a corner and slowed down. One time this guy was getting off the rink when they called a 'Couples Only' skate, and she had to stoop down to tie her skate laces and this guy almost ran her over! But, thankfully the guy stopped in time and just looked down at her and said, "Sorry about that" and she said -- and that's when we said it together -- 'That's OK!' She looked at me and said, 'I don't believe this!' Yes, we had met back in 1981 in Clearwater, Fla., and thought about each other for the next 21 years. We were married in March 2002 and we were together for three years!" -- Paul K.

"Talking till the wee hours of the morning like we were some lovestruck teenagers." -- Nadine M.

"She said she was a runner and wanted to run a marathon. We met for coffee. She entered the restaurant and was enormous. Heavy. Big. She dropped her napkin and could not bend to pick it up. I asked her about being a runner and she said, 'Oh, I am going to do that some day.' I thanked her and wished her good luck and said if she ever runs in a marathon, she should call me and I would be at the finish line." -- TBloomie

"My most memorable first date was with a flying instructor I met online. We were not attracted to each other but have remained very good friends. The best part is that he is teaching me to fly a small plane for free! It is such a thrill and I can't believe I am flying a plane! We still take turns treating each other to lunch or dinner! So sometimes when there is no attraction, you can still remain friends, just to have a male buddy to go out with every once in a while. Beats sitting home and never having anyone to go out with!" -- BCFJ

"My most memorable first date was with my second husband. He drove me to the shore to go to dinner. The place was beautiful...white tablecloths, all glass wall looking over the ocean. After lobster and many glasses of expensive wine, I told him that he should not drive, so he hired a limo that drove us to club after club for the rest of the night! Come to find out after I married him, way too soon, that he was actually a couch potato!" -- Amy R.

"I met this guy in Texas. He was in the military. We got along really well and we dated for about four months before he was sent to Biloxi, Miss. I ended up going with him. Our first date in Biloxi was great! We had gone to the beach and I discovered he had all kind of goodies in the trunk -- blanket, flowers that he stuck in the sand, battery-operated candles, white wine and some music. The weather was perfect. The rest is history." -- Julie C.

"My memorable first date was with my fiancé, who passed away three years ago. It was a blind date and when I pulled up to meet him he looked like a band member out of ZZ Top. I muttered to myself, this is going to be a fun date, but I had to eat those words for two years, because he turned out to be the love of my life, my soul mate, my everything. Throughout his illness he showed me what integrity was, what courage was, what truth was, what strength was, and most of all what love is. My life has and will never be the same." -- Jeanne B.

"I actually met my man on Yahoo! Personals. He was the first person I ever sent a message to. Our first date was wonderful! We chatted and talked on the phone before the big day. When we met, it was as though we had known each other forever. I asked him if he would be interested in going to a movie after dinner. (This is before we met in person.) He was hesitant due to the fact that you never know who you are going to meet. After dinner, he gave me a kiss and then said, 'So, what movie do you want to go to?' We ended up going to the movies. It was a blast! We made out like little high school children. Someone even told us to get a room! We are madly in love now and I can never get enough of him. To top it off, we are both big geeks. I am going to college for what he does. Isn't that weird? I just wanted to say thanks to Yahoo! Personals for helping me find the man of my dreams!" -- Lisa L.

"It was when I lived in Chicago -- my very first date with a girl I ended up dating for more than a year. I took the bus downtown to meet her. We had reservations at a nice Italian restaurant. When I met Jeana, she took my breath away she was so beautiful. I definitely did not want to mess it up, but I did. Apparently I lost my money clip on the bus and did not know about it until we ordered our first drink. She was so cool about it and paid for everything that evening, and I made it up to her by buying her a Tiffany bracelet a few months later." -- Vance L.

"He called to say, 'Let’s get together one hour earlier than we planned, I can't wait to see you.' He pulled up and got out and opened my car door and said, 'You look absolutely beautiful tonight.' He got in the car and asked where I wanted to go eat. I said this is your town, you choose. I was so nervous and he took his arm and pulled me close to him and said, 'Don't be nervous, I'll take care of you.' I guess it was obvious that I hadn't been on a date in three years. We had a wonderful dinner and the conversation was great too. We went back to his house and watched TV, drank wine, talked and laughed for hours. He made me feel like I had known him forever. I think I fell for him right then." -- Brandy
