We asked for your memorable first-date tales. Here are some more stories you've told us.
"In April 2000, my husband and I met online. We are both New York Mets fanatics, so on our first date he took me to a Mets game. He got us box seats and took me to the Diamond Club (the stadium's restaurant) for brunch. We expected a nice meal but were served a pittance of scrambled eggs instead, with very little on the side. We were enjoying each other so much, we didn't really mind. Then they brought the check. As if the box seats he bought for us weren't enough, he was stunned at the amount of money he was charged for the meal! He didn't let on, though, and paid the check, and we've been together ever since. One day after we had been dating for a few months he let me in on how much our first date cost him, and we got a good laugh out of it. I'm glad he thought I was worth it!" -- Vanessa

"My most memorable first date happened after I had been divorced and alone for a while (a long while). He not only took me, he also asked my 9-year-old daughter to go. We didn't do anything special. He took us for a long ride through the country. He had packed a cooler and we stopped on a grassy knoll to have a picnic. He played tapes of Jerry Clower and we laughed so hard, he had to pull the truck off the road! We dated for several months. It ended as abruptly as it began, but I still feel good all over when I remember that day!" -- Nancy R.
"On my most memorable first date, my date rearended my brand new truck. Needless to say he never got a second date." -- RebelBoy
"I had talked to the guy for a few weeks before we decided to go out. One of the weeks my back was killing me because I fell down a flight of stairs. He brought me flowers, a card and a little package. In the package were ICY HOT packs for my back. I thought that was the sweetest thing that anyone has ever done, I will never forget it." -- Joyce R.
"When we met for the first time in person, I was shocked she was so fat, not thin like her photos. When I asked her what's up, she said she 'cut and pasted' a HOT model female body photo over her body on her photos! I opted for just the side salad, then left the cafe." -- Xeonium

"My most memorable first date was a trip to the airport mall in Bangor, Maine. The trip was not an official date, but it was the most memorable. I proposed that night using a vending machine plastic ring for the ring. She said yes. It was the happiest day of that year. But things did not last, and now I am here looking for love." -- Peter H.
"My most memorable first date was with my second husband. He drove me to the shore to go to diner. The place was beautiful...white tablecloths, all glass wall looking over the ocean. After lobster and many glasses of expensive wine, I told him that he should not drive, so he hired a limo that drove us to club after club for the rest of the night! Come to find out after I married him, way too soon, that he was actually a couch potato! LOL." -- Amy R.
"I was a sophomore in college. It was my first date with Danny. We went to the Strand Theater in Kutztown, Pa. -- $1.25 per person. So silly. We saw 'St. Elmo's Fire.' I was so nervous that I ate all the popcorn before the movie even started! Then I was so embarrassed! But we had a wonderful time and dated for two years after that. He's the one that got away." -- Madeline
"I was to meet this fellow who was very tall and slender and would be wearing suspenders at the local antique mail. I walked into the mall entrance where we were to meet and walked up to him and asked if he collected glass birds. He asked if I was (my name) and I replied positive. He said he wasn't Don, but instead was Don's best friend. He said that Don had asked him to come to meet me. He said he regretted to inform me that Don's wife found out about it and had hit him over the head with an iron skillet and he was in the hospital with a bad concussion. Of course I am feeling just terrible and asking questions about how bad he was, etc. He let me continue to feel just terrible then finally admitted that he in fact was Don, and was having some fun with me. He of course told me in his profile that he had a good sense of humor, but this was carrying it a bit too far. He also admitted the picture he had on his profile was about 10 years old. That is why I didn't recognize him. We did enjoy a shopping trip and then dinner afterwards, but no connection was made, and therefore no further date." -- Donna from Ohio
"It was memorable, all right. She lived 10 miles out of town, and I got lost on the way there. Luckily I had planned on getting to the turnoff early and sitting and waiting for awhile, so I was able to pick her up on time. In my 1963 Falcon wagon. We went into town and got to the restaurant BEFORE they were supposed to be open (I hadn't checked the time!). We both had steak and sauteed shrimp, but she had an 'extra' protein source -- there was a sauteed roach under one of the shrimp. As we got out to my wagon, the rear tire was flat, so I had to change it. We got to the movie theatre, and our first choice of movie had sold out (due to the delay in getting the tire changed). So we watched 'Poltergeist' instead. I was totally shocked when she went out with me again later!" -- UberGramps
"I had never been dancing in my life. A girlfriend wanted to show me how TEXAS does things, so she took me to a dance hall. Was sitting there when this TALL cowboy hat went walking past. Fell in LOVE right there. He noticed me about two dances later. Asked me to dance. Soon as he put his arm around me, I JUST KNEW I was where I wanted to be for the rest of my life. As he slipped his arm around he looked down at me and said (as he is pulling me close to him), 'We hitch up pretty good!' That did it for me. I was in love. He came and sat with me and my friend. We danced every dance that night, they had to throw us out. I did not want it to end nor did he. He took me out to breakfast, then to my apartment. We were married a few months later and I had over 17 years with him. The Lord took him home Nov 2, 2004. That was the best date I have ever had, and it lasted till he passed away. What a date!" -- Betty Jean
"It was the most magical night I've ever had in my entire life on a first date! It was literally as if the whole world around us did not exist anymore. It was just he and I enjoying our company together, entranced, lost in the moment of 'us'. We had a few drinks together at our agreed meeting spot, then walked through a flood wall gate to a nearby park on the Ohio River in Point Pleasant, W. Va. It was late so we had the whole park to ourselves, where we saw tugboats on river, the bright headlight of a train passing over the river on a train trestle, and after a short walk, he showed me a statue of the infamous 'Mothman,' a mythical creature, half man half moth, said to have roamed the streets of Point Pleasant. We later walked back to our vehicles where the magic continued with another hour or so of talking, embracing and kissing. It couldn't have been better! We're still communicating with each other but with the distance between us, we're trying to decide if it could be a relationship worth pursuing. Either way, neither of us would trade a single minute of that first date...nor the continued magic of our second date a month later. No matter how it ends up, NO regrets on either side! PRICELESS!" -- Teresa
"First and last date from hell was when I met her at the porch and she came out in a full-length black leather Dominatrix outfit, with a 3-foot-tall tree on her head! It looked like Delta Burke in drag. What really scared me was the big duffel bag she dragged alongside. My bad manners had me asking her if I should go get some string and popcorn, and I told her I didn't have a sunroof on my car. I could go on about this date, but the worst part of all was getting a call from Jerry Springer's producer telling me he had a few calls about the date...no, I didn't go on the show!" -- Kevin
"My most memorable first date was with my current boyfriend, Ray, who I met two years ago on Yahoo! Personals. I live in Florida and he lives in Michigan. We met for dinner at a Greek restaurant, which was nice and it kinda went along with the fact that I am a Latin teacher. We had such wonderful conversation that the waiter later told us that he postponed bringing out our meals. Then Ray drove us to downtown Detroit to see the city lights while listening to Motown music. It was a very beautiful night and sight from a parking garage in the heart of Motor City. From this spectacular vista, Ray kissed me for the first time and yes, we both saw and felt fireworks and the rest is history!" -- Ann
"I was in a hospital, suffering from asthma. A guy I had been talking to on Yahoo! Personals found out I was in the hospital and brought flowers and dinner. As he was leaving, two hours later, he declared this to be his most 'unusual' date ever. We are still seeing each other today." -- Sherry T.
"I met a guy on Yahoo! Personals and we talked online for months. Finally he asked me for my phone number and we talked for a few more months. I made the first move of setting up a meeting time -- I just had to know who this mystery man was. My car was in the shop, so I had a friend of mine drop me off. After a few drinks he said he really liked being with me and wanted to take me somewhere else. He asked if I was comfortable enough to drive in his car and was a complete gentleman. I wasn't sure where he was going and began getting a little nervous, until we pulled up to this beautiful area by the river that he had remembered me telling him I had never been to and wanted to go. We walked and talked and had a great time -- we had so much in common and yet so many things that we could share or teach the other. We had just walked under a bridge and he grabbed my hand and led me back under it, pulled me close and gave me the sweetest, most innocent kiss -- it sent shivers down my entire body. He pulled away and said I wanted a special memory of you every time I drive past this bridge. Even though after a few more months he decided not to pursue anything, I still remember him every time I pass that bridge." -- Toosweet
We arrived at the restaurant and the first thing he said was, 'I'm not that hungry, I think I'll order buffalo wings.' My first reaction to that was not good. I thought either he's being cheap or he really isn't hungry. We talked and laughed and ordered three margaritas each with Patron tequila and had a good time. Then the bill came, at which time he told me he only brought $25 with him. I couldn't believe it! I looked at him and said, 'You are kidding, right?' He said no. I then proceeded to tell him when he takes a girl out, he should be fully prepared and he should not have ordered the margaritas, with Patron no less! I was furious. I paid the bill, which was well over $25, and told him this was our last date. I walked out. He emailed me, but I told him it wasn't going to work out between us." -- Christine
"Getting wildflowers that my boyfriend had picked himself." -- Bogue
"We met while he was a volunteer and I was a worker at The Ronald McDonald House. After a few months of sporadic conversations, I decided to call him for a date. It was obvious we were both nervous, but had a great time in New York City. We met at Macy's, went to see a movie (where we had our first kiss), then dinner at Motown Cafe. We had such a great time, he invited me to his house. We talked for hours about our goals and dreams of a family that night. We spent that night together, which was the start of our nearly 10-year relationship (four years married) and now a beautiful baby girl. Though our relationship is going through tough times (some talk of separation), I will never forget our first date." -- Denise M.
"He had read one of my books (I write computer 'Dummies' books) and had called me to help him with his software. I lived in Florida, he was in New York City. Ironically, I was coming to New York the next month for the U.S. Open with seven of my girlfriends. He offered to meet us and give us a tour of the city. When he arrived at our hotel I was expecting Elmer Fudd -- his voice was so sexy on the phone. Instead he was tall, dark and handsome. He took the eight of us on a tour of the city -- talk about chaperoned dating! It started to rain and he put his arm around me to share an umbrella -- I felt like I had been shocked. We continued to email, then talk on the phone for hours, and finally started commuting to spend time with each other once a month. It was like we had known each other all our lives and never ran out of things to talk about. After two and a half years, he moved to Florida to be with me and we're still together. And yes, all my friends still love him!" -- Karen F.
"I have met the most wonderful man. He had to convince me to even email him at first! Being courageous, I said it couldn't hurt, so we wrote, then talked, then met. I was unbelievably nervous at our first date. The restaurant was crowded and he was sitting in the bar. I found him through the crowd and saw he was talking on his cell phone. 'Oh great,' I thought, 'he's talking to other women while he's waiting for me.' He looked up and as our eyes met, he stopped talking, shook his head, mumbled something into his phone, hung up, and proceeded to give me the biggest hug I have ever had! His first words to me were, 'You are stunning! I almost fell off the stool when I saw you.' We had instant chemistry, holding each other and not wanting to let go at the end of the night. The phone call -- it was his mother! Gotta love a guy who calls his mother!" -- Sandra W.
"The first time I met Mike, he was a firefighter. My cousin, who was dating the chief, had set us up to meet on bingo night. We hit it off -- until it was time for him to take me home. I had a bad experience in the past and didn't really trust anyone. I specifically told him where to turn to go to my house. He got to talking and completely missed the turnoff. Yeah, I was rude, but I wanted to know where he was taking me! That's when he started apologizing over and over. Why he went out with me again, I'll never know, but we were married eight months later, and after 20 years of marriage, we couldn't be happier. I still bring this story up now and then." -- Donna F.
"We met at work. It must have been his eyes or the way he smiled what sent my heart racing so fast. It was love at first sight for both of us. I kissed him three times during our second or third date. One time while driving, we had a little disagreement and we had to stop at a red light. He opened the door, got out and pulled some wild yellow flowers and gave them to me. I thought that he was the sweetest guy in the world, until an angry bee came out of the flowers. We do crazy things when we are in love! We are still together after 16 years of marriage." -- Lesley C.
"My husband and I were acquaintances for a long time. We knew each other and hung out, but that's it. Our first date happened when both of us were very bored and it was about 9 at night. We decided to grab some movies and go to my place. We watched movies all night on the couch and fell asleep there too. He was so sweet. After that, we were always together, and Christmas Eve he proposed to me in front of my WHOLE family. I mean parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He surprised me by taking me to a town right outside of Virginia that I said I thought was the cutest place ever, and we were married there. I thank God for the night we were totally bored!" -- Rose S.
"I went on a couple of dates and was about to give up when I was on the computer one night and I got an instant message from this girl who had seen my ad on Yahoo! Personals. The first question I had for her was, 'Do you have a picture?' It's not all about that, but the last couple of dates I had gotten some pictures that did not quite match. So I loved the picture and we talked all night on the phone. For our first date she is going to come to my house and we are going to dinner. She calls me up and gives me what I thought at the time was a lame story about how her car had gotten broken into and her window was busted out and she was going to try to get it fixed. I figured, yeah right, nice knowing you. She calls me back a couple hours later -- she had gotten it fixed and she was on her way over. We went to a nice restaurant and talked all night. That was around Christmas 2001 and we were married March 6, 2004. And to this day we still love each other more than anything, and we owe it all to Yahoo! So we kind of laugh when we hear people say they are trying online dating but that it is not working out." -- Brandon
"I was tired of the bad boys and bars, so I joined a dating service. Don was about my 37th date and I was his first. We talked on the phone first and found out a lot of information about one another. We decided to meet at a place in between each other's houses. We lived 45 miles apart. When I showed up he was wearing a cut off Harley Davidson denim shirt and dark sunglasses, and I thought to myself, wow, another bad boy. But I had to go in and tell him I showed up. When I walked up to the table the waitress brought me what I liked to drink and two red roses in a vase. I asked the waitress did she serve roses with all the drinks and she said no they were from him. I was blown away, no one had ever done anything like that for me. So I sat down and we started talking and found out we were a really good fit. Six weeks later he took me to dinner down at the Plaza, and he was making me eat fast and I was wondering why. And then we went outside, and we were dancing on the sidewalk and he was telling me how beautiful I was and how he was so lucky to have me in his life. When around the corner came this horse-drawn Cinderella carriage with blue lights. The driver said your carriage awaits. So we got in and I was again blown away. The driver started talking about the history of the plaza and Don said, 'Look buddy, I'm trying to propose here, do you mind keeping quiet for a bit?' He got down on one knee in the carriage and asked me to marry him. I said yes, of course, and we have been together seven years. It hasn't always been roses, but I know he loves me to the core. And I know he would never intentionally hurt me. I now do believe in there is someone for everyone, you just have to find them." -- Jackie K.
"We met on the phone on a business call -- me in Texas and him in California. Making a long story short, after several great conversations that had little to do with business, we traded home numbers and began a three-month long-distance phone courtship! Hours a day; often late into the night. After three months we were in love and had never even seen a picture of each other! Armed only with descriptions of what the other looked like and would be wearing, I flew to California for a week to see if the last piece of the puzzle was there -- the chemistry. It was! The week was great and we didn't want to part. Two weeks later he flew in to meet my parents and family for the weekend. Two weeks after that he flew back in, helped me pack my U-Haul and drove me to California! The rest is history and we have been married for almost 10 years with two beautiful kids! Had our share of ups and downs, but all in all, I wouldn't trade any of it. Moral of this story (pick one or all): take a chance; it's your life, live it; don't listen to others who poo-poo something beautiful because they are too jaded or jealous-- do what your heart tells you and you will never be sorry." -- Linda M.
"My memorable first date was with a guy I have known forever. When I was a young girl I kissed him at the firehouse where our dads were firefighters. As I got older I had always wondered if that kiss really happened or if it was just a dream. Well, then when I was a little older we started hanging out again and one night (at the firehouse) he said, 'Do you remember that time we kissed when we were little?' I said yes and he said, 'Wanna try that again?' I said yes and we kissed. A few weeks later he came to my prom and we had an amazing night of dancing and bowling. We aren't together anymore, but at least I know it wasn't just a dream." -- Chelsey
"I was luckily enough to meet the most beautiful woman through Yahoo! Personals even though I was stationed in rural Missouri at the time. After exchanging a few emails, chatting online and talking on the phone, she agreed for me to pick her up at her house on the other side of town. Everything was set for the big first date and then my truck broke down the day before. So I borrowed my uncle's car, a 1970 Trans Am, and went to meet her. At first sight I'm sure my jaw must have dropped -- she was beautiful. So we talked for a few minutes, got into the car and proceeded two miles to the interstate. The flashing blue lights had come on behind me and I pulled over. I wasn't speeding. I was extremely confused. The officer explained that I had a tail light out and he would just give me a warning after running my license. No problem. After running my license he came back and asked me to step to the rear of the car. I had paid a speeding ticket with a personal check, but the court would not accept personal checks and there was a warrant for my arrest. I pleaded my case to the officer. I explained how I had just met this woman, that this was our first date and that she must be scared to death given the circumstances. No deal. No more then 20 minutes after meeting her, I had to ask her to drive this monster of a car to follow me to jail. The officer explained that I could pay the ticket and be immediately released. Luckily, I had enough cash and the whole thing was done really quick. Quick enough that I was able to convince her to continue the date. She figured if all I was wanted for was an unpaid speeding ticket, she was at least safe to go a few blocks to the restaurant. The date went well. But I figured there was no way I would ever see her again after I dropped her off. We continued talking on the phone and chatting some more before she agreed to go out with me again. I was in disbelief when it finally happened and had to ask her why in the world would she go out with me after that first date. She told me that she liked how I opened the doors for her. She factored all things together and the deciding factor was that I opened the doors for her. Well, to make a long story short, we just celebrated our seventh anniversary. She is still beautiful and I still open doors for her. Thanks a million, Yahoo!" -- Pat
"My most memorable first date was with the woman I now call my wife. It was a set-up to, of all things, a monster truck show. As hesitant as I was, I had agreed after talking with her a few times on the telephone. When she pulled up with her uncle and stepped out of the car, she simply took my breath away (out of my league). We proceeded to the show, and left out of boredom. During the ride home she ended up grabbing my arm and simply saying, 'I think this is going to work out.' It did! We talked all night, literally, and have been inseparable since." -- Harry
"After having survived our first date, we knew we were meant for one another. Our first date was supposed to be a day hike up to the peak of San Jacinto mountain near Idyllwild. We attacked the trail at a leisurely pace, thinking that we'd have plenty of time. We started off on our day hike around 10 in the morning and finally reached the peak at 6 in the evening as the sun was starting to set. Knowing that we didn't have much sunlight on the lower part of the trail, we made haste down the mountain. As sunlight faded into night, we pulled out one of our two sources of illumination -- a pen light. The trusty little pen light lit the way for about an hour before it went dead. We then resorted to our second source of illumination -- a lighter. We tried flicking the lighter constantly to light our way, but the heat from the flint burned our fingers, so we decided to MacGyver a lantern using my Lip Medex as a fuel source (petroleum), an inch-long strip of my shoelace for the wick, and light from the lighter. Unfortunately, the shoelace wouldn't burn, so we fashioned another lantern, but this time using a hollowed-out piece of wood, pine needles, and shredded pieces of my t-shirt. The lantern worked great, except for the flaming pieces of ember that kept falling off the lantern. While my date navigated the trail and lit the way, I had to play fire ranger and stomp out any burning remnants that fell on the trail. Not quite the type of excitement I was thinking of for our first date, but thanks to my date's ingenuity and knowledge of the trail, we made it safely back to his car by 1 a.m. and lived to share our tale." -- Lynn and Paul
