Women Want Husbands, Men Want Dates From Santa This Year

According to a Yahoo! Personals Survey, 40 percent of single women are asking Santa to bring them someone to marry in the next year, while 38 percent of single men are just hoping to get a hot date for New Year's Eve.

More than 1,000 single people from across the country offered insights into their wish lists for holiday party dates, meeting the parents, celebrity mistletoe encounters and more.

Willing to go Solo?

  • While 86 percent of singles are willing to go to a holiday party alone, nearly half (43 percent) admitted that it's sad to be single during the holidays.
  • Singles in the Midwest are the most likely to stay home if they don't have a date to a holiday party.

Mixing Business With Pleasure

  • While 76 percent of singles said they would "never ever" hook up with a co-worker at their office holiday party, it's most likely to happen among single colleagues on the West Coast.
  • 69 percent would bring a date to their office holiday party only if they'd been dating for a few months.
  • Single men and women in their 40s are the least likely to bring a date to their company's holiday party.

Hollywood Holiday

  • Men on the West Coast would prefer to be caught under the mistletoe with Cameron Diaz, while East Coast men choose Britney Spears.
  • Beating out other hot stars by more than 2:1, Matt Damon was the celebrity that women across the country are hoping to meet under the mistletoe this year.
  • The majority of respondents (35 percent) said that "It's a Wonderful Life" is the holiday movie that best sums up their single life.

All I Want For Christmas

  • 40 percent of single women are asking Santa to bring them someone to marry this Christmas, while 38 percent of single men are just hoping to get a hot date for New Year's Eve.

Meet the Parents

  • 96 percent of single men and women said they would take a new love interest home for the holidays to meet the family for the first time. Interestingly enough, even with the traditional pressure on women to "get married" or "find a man," more women than men said it would have to be someone special in order for them to "meet the parents."

Ringing in the New Year

  • Nearly half of respondents (46 percent) indicated that their New Year's resolution for 2004 is to meet new people and go on more dates in hopes of meeting that special someone -- more than losing weight, quitting smoking, saving money and exercising.
  • While 24 percent of singles think New Year's Eve is overrated, 40 percent see it as a new chance to find love.
