Sharena, 34, Placentia, Calif. It was a spur of the moment decision. I saw an advertisement and it seemed really simple to enter, and thought to myself, why not? After I entered, I became curious about the 2004 Real People, perused the scrapbook, and read about Julie's Billboard. I realized how much fun it could be and began hoping I would get picked. |

Marilyn, 54, Palm Desert, Calif. Because I felt I was a real person. Plus it didn't hurt to have the encouragement from friends and family to "go for it." I figured my killer smile would grab someone's attention. |

Diane, 53, Las Vegas, Nev. I didn't. I was chosen. What an honor! I guess that's even better huh? |

Steven, 35, Franklin Square, N.Y. I entered the Real People contest because my personality and experience reflects what the current dating trend and scene is like, particularly here in New York. |

Mike, 29, Sea Bright, N.J. I noticed the pictures from the previous year and they (the Real People) seemed to have enjoyed themselves as they were all happy and had great smiles. In addition, they all had that "genuine appeal." |

Robert, 52, Mill Valley, Calif. I have always felt some invisible barrier was holding me back from being real with people. I was constantly being harangued by comments like "Get real!" or "Are you for real?" from my therapist. I decided that Yahoo! was an exquisite venue to promote my version of reality - and you're welcome to it! Alas, I have been vindicated, elevated and elated to finally be a Real Person, even if only for a year. |

Mary, 51, Seattle, Wash. I noticed the ad to enter and without thinking about it too much I clicked to enter. I never expected to win. And it sounded like a promotion for which I was qualified, I mean, who isn't a real person? |

Missy,
24, Watertown, NY I thought it would be a fun experience and different from anything I've ever done before. I very rarely meet people who I don't work with or have anything in common with. I wanted to meet new people from all walks of life and be able to forget about my stressful life in the military for a few days. |
|

Arnold, 57, Fair Oaks, Calif. I could not pass up a chance to try something I had not done before. I never dreamed I would win and be treated like royalty by Yahoo! for a week -- getting a taste of what it is like to be a model, even for a few days. |
|

Will, 58, Glendale, Calif. I saw it as an adventure unto itself, without preconceived expectations, especially since I applied before I found out what the Real People program was last year. |
|

Rick, 50, Parker, Colo. It sounded like a great opportunity to meet new friends and to do something I have never done before. Life is full of experiences and to live it to the fullest, one should grab all opportunities that come along for the experience of it. |

Ed, 40, Yarmouth, Iowa I wish I had a really great story about why I wanted to enter. Unfortunately, I don't. However, it sounded like a good time, and I thought "what the heck?" So I entered, and look at me now! |

Nancy, 49, Scottsdale, Ariz. Well, I think that using people who actually use the Yahoo! Personals instead of models is a much better representation of the site. And if you don't enter, you can' t win. So I just clicked the link to enter. And when I viewed the Real People 2004 page and saw the fun they were having, I contacted one from my area. He said I'd have the time of my life and he was right. Oh, and the most important reason for entering, to meet someone fun who wants to meet someone fun. |

Mike, 42, Virginia Beach, Va. The idea of having my face plastered online was appealing for the exposure alone (yeah, ego played a part also). And free trip to San Francisco? I'm in. |
|
![]() |
Cindy, 30, Miami, Fla. I entered because I had nothing to lose. However, mostly I was motivated by the idea of traveling to San Francisco, meeting new people, and the experience as a whole. |
|

Tina, 35, Tampa, Fla. I felt I would be a great representative for the Yahoo Personals RP Project 2005. I am exactly that -- a real person, in search of a new friend and possibly more. I thought it would be an exciting way to meet quality real people just like myself, so I entered. |
|

Deshae, 28, West Covina, Calif. The main thing that made me enter was, I didn't expect to win and it was easy to enter. |
|

Michelle, 34, Manteca, Calif. For the exciting experience: To be able to see what's it's like to live like a super star, to go everywhere in a limousine, get lunches catered to our trailer and extravagant dinners with wine, and most of all, I have met some fabulous friends. |

Morgan, 54, Louisville, Ky. There were two reasons --- first just to see if I would be selected and the second was to obtain more exposure. |
|

Valerie, 63, Sonoma, Calif. I felt that I was a "real person" trying to communicate that fact to potential dates on Yahoo! Personals where I have had a profile for some time and I thought that I might get to make a contribution to the format in some manner. |

Ann, 24, Pelham, Ala. After seeing the Real People 2004 scrapbook I thought it would be really cool to be treated like a star for a few days so I gave it a shot! It was truly a life changing experience because I met 25 amazing people and had the time of my life! |

Beth, 30, San Antonio, Texas I wanted the free trip to San Francisco and I thought it would be fun to get all of that exposure. I am new to the dating world and I thought it would be a good way to meet people. Never in a million years did I think I would have been picked! |

Trevor, 30, Boise, Idaho I decided to enter the contest because I thought a free trip and vacation would be nice if I were selected. I was also on the rebound from a two-year relationship and thought that if I won it would be a good ego boost. |
|

Pat, 35, Brandon, Fla. I entered because I wanted to see if I could be lucky enough to get picked, plus it seemed like a great opportunity. I've wanted to get into print modeling for a while and this was a good first introduction into what goes into that. I'm also a singer-songwriter and figured it might open some doors that way also. |

Frank, 25, Brandon, Fla. Mainly just for fun. I never seriously thought that I had a chance. |

Raymond, 44, Louisville, Ky. I have always had a desire to be in the spotlight either as an actor or model. But due to my 5' 9" height, I never thought modeling was an option and never pursued acting. When I got the opportunity to be part of the 2005 Real People, I thought about it all the way until a few hours before the deadline. I just had a feeling that this could be my chance to fulfill a dream. It was a chance well worth taking. |

Gloria,
50, Rochester, NY I could say that I entered the contest because I'm a genuine person, full of positive energy with a passion for life. But, the truth is, all I did was check this cute little box that appeared on the site one day, knew it had something to do with giving my profile more exposure, and thought, why not? It's not like they're going to choose me or anything, so what have I got to lose? I thought that if a miracle happened and I was chosen, the most exposure I might get would be to have my photo posted on the Rochester, NY site like an "Employee of the Month" or something. I had no idea of the wonderful experience that was about to happen to me. (Yes, I'll be more careful to read what I'm signing up for next time.) |

Dena, 50, Jonesboro, Ga. To tell you the truth, I entered the Real Person contest on a whim. I thought that perhaps my photo would be presentable enough to warrant consideration... and "low and behold", it was. I was thrilled.... |
