Colleen's Story
I was playing pool on Yahoo! Games with my brother who lives in Missouri. It was a Saturday evening in March 2002 and I was home in St. Paul, Minn. A Yahoo! Personals ad appeared and then what started out as just passing time, ended up changing the course of my life.
Just for fun, I browsed some of the profiles. I hadn't dated in quite some time and really wasn't looking for a relationship however, there was one man in particular who really caught my eye. It wasn't the way he looked; it was the content of his profile. He seemed sincere, honest, and sweet.
I paid for a subscription so I could reply to this particular gentleman. I just sent him a quick note, without attaching my picture. Weeks went by and I never heard back from him. Thinking he was not interested, I deleted his profile from my computer and forgot all about him. About a month later, I received a message from him. When I told him I deleted him, he asked me if I could color him back in. It turned out he hadn't checked his Yahoo! Personals mailbox in such a long time, he had forgotten his password. Later, when he remembered his password, he replied to me.
We emailed back and fourth every day for about two months. Then, on Aug. 30, 2002, we decided to meet at the Minnesota State Fair in front of the dairy building. You have to know that the Minnesota State Fair is huge, with tens of thousands of people milling about. When I got to the fair, I asked someone where the dairy building was. To my alarm, there was no dairy building. The good news was that the building was still there; it just had a new name. So I made my way to the building and stood there. I was beginning to feel quite silly, when I turned around and there he was leaning on the building that was no longer the dairy building.
We just hit it off. We had a great time at the fair and began seeing each other on a regular basis. As it turned out, we only lived 10 minutes away from each other.
In April of 2003, we each sold our houses and moved to the Ozark Mountains in Southern Missouri, purchased our first home and began a new life together.
On Valentine's Day of 2004, we became engaged. We were married on August 21, 2004. We had an outdoor wedding. The ceremony was held on a deck on a cliff that jutted out over the bluffs of Table Rock Lake. It was beautiful!
I met the most beautiful person in the world on Yahoo! Personals and you can, too!
