“Since he was on television, I figured he was credible.”

By Gilda W., 42, Houston, Texas
Guy and Gilda Gilda and Guy

I created a profile on Yahoo! Personals in December 2003, but I did not become a member at that time. On Yahoo! Personals anyone can create a live profile and be seen by anyone and get responses, but you cannot reply unless you are a subscriber.

I was not ready to dive into the singles arena yet, so I waited until the time was right.

My divorce was final on March 1, 2004. Fortunately, I decided my life was going to be happy with or without a man in my life. I focused on my job and keeping my staff content.

More frequent responses

One day in April, as I was looking at my email, I found that responses from my profile were becoming more frequent, so I decided to become a subscriber for a minimum amount of time. There was a particular response that I needed to see so I read his profile and was mesmerized by it.

It had been several weeks since he had contacted me by email and if faith would have it, he would still be available. His email was titled, "Let's have dinner." I replied to his email positively and ended with, "If it's too late, I wish you well."

I sat down to watch the TV news and was stunned to find he was being interviewed on the local news! Great timing! I proposed a meeting with Guy at the end of May, but he suggested we meet May 7th -- at his home. Since he was on television, I figured he was credible. Of course, I told everyone who I was meeting and where. It took me one hour to get to his home. When I arrived -- very excited and hopeful -- our eyes met and it was instant attraction.

It was incredible

We talked for several hours getting to know each other. When I left at midnight, I knew it was a definite connection. As the month dashed on, we discovered we were in love. Remember, love is something you can't control. The man of my dreams proposed to me July 31, 2004 wile we were standing next to Arlington House, the Custis-Lee Mansion, in Arlington Cemetery, overlooking Washington, D.C. It was incredible as well as unusual. Guy tells the story much better than I do and we joke about it at times, because I didn't even have a clue and he was so nervous. I wish we had it on video. What a wonderful experience for both of us. We love sharing the story.

We were married on March 26, 2005.
