Sandra and Troy
I had used Yahoo! Personals for a month and a half and subscribed in mid-October 2004. My early search matched me with about 700 guys who sort of fit what I was looking for. I narrowed the number down to about 30 guys who interested me.
I went out with two great guys before I went out with Troy. However, I kept coming back to his profile. I did this for several days before I contacted him. We chatted on and off for about two weeks. At first I thought that he was not interested in me because our conversations were so short -- they only lasted about 10 minutes. Later I later found out why. He was working two jobs and going to school full time.
On Saturday, October 30 Troy sent me an IM, asking how my day was going. After I responded, we decided to meet at a Starbucks near my house. I knew what he looked like (or what he was supposed to look like). When he got out of his truck and he looked nothing like his picture!
He had a full beard and mustache. I thought to myself, what did I get myself into? However Troy seemed like a really nice guy. Besides I am the type of person who does not judge someone by the way he or she looks.
Anyway, we had some coffee and talked and before we knew it, two hours had passed and we were hungry. So we went to a local restaurant and had a wonderful dinner.
I knew I had found someone really special. The conversation was great and I knew I liked him. When we left the restaurant it was about 11 o'clock and I said goodnight. I do not believe in kissing on the first date and he respected that. He told me he wanted to see me again -- the next day, in fact -- and I said yes.
After that, we both knew it was love! I was looking for a strong Christian person with good morals. He fit that description. That next day he told me he did not want to jinx anything, but said he thought he had found the person he was looking for. We both felt that way.
Oh, and since then, Troy has shaved off his beard and mustache and all I can say is, "Wow!"
Well, things only got better after that and we were married on April 22, 2005. I feel blessed every day to have Troy in my life. We jokingly say we could be spokespeople for Yahoo! Personals because it does work! When people ask us how we met we always look at each other and give a little laugh and then we tell people and they are just amazed. It makes a great story.
Also, my best friend, Michelle, met her fiancé on Yahoo! Personals and they were married last July.
